Things to Do in Encinitas California
Encinitas California, a beach town that's recently been named among the 20 best surf towns in the world, is home to a wide range of attractions and activities for visitors. From surfing to museums, shopping to dining, this fun city is sure to please any visitor! Located 25 miles north of San Diego, Encinitas is known for its laid-back vibe and six miles of sandy beaches.
One of the most popular things to do in Encinitas is visit Moonlight Beach, a pristine, wide-open beach that's perfect for a day of swimming and soaking up the sun. It's also a popular spot for surf competitions and music festivals in the summer. The beach is easily accessible and has restrooms, a concession stand, picnic areas, and lifeguard towers to help keep you safe.
If you're looking for some culture in Encinitas, consider visiting the Encinitas Historical Society and 1883 Schoolhouse. This white clapboard cottage is an excellent way to learn about this unique beach town's rich history through photographs, exhibits, research papers, and docent-led walking tours.
Another cultural attraction in Encinitas is the San Diego Botanic Garden, which features 15 distinct gardens from around the world. This 37-acre botanical sanctuary is a must-visit for nature lovers who love to explore plant communities and wildlife.
While there, be sure to check out the bamboo collection, which is considered the largest in the country! A visit to the Garden Spa is sure to be a relaxing experience, as you'll be treated to a soothing massage in a Hawaiian-themed garden environment.
There are also many yoga studios throughout Encinitas to try. If you're looking for a more active activity, there are a number of hiking trails in the area as well, and you can even catch a show at the Encinitas Theater of Dance if you're into that kind of thing!
Lastly, there's also the San Elijo Lagoon, which is a great place to relax and take in the beautiful natural scenery. You'll find plenty of walking paths along the lagoon and you can watch birds, fish, and other wildlife as you walk.
It's a perfect location for a day of sunbathing or snorkeling, so make sure to bring your sunscreen and a towel! If you want to explore more of the lagoon, you can always head down to the Nature Center, where you'll learn about its diverse plants and wildlife.
You may want to stop at the Encinitas Farmer's Market while you're in town on a Sunday, where you'll find a wide variety of organic fruit and vegetables as well as meats and baked goods. If you're looking for more of a local touch, you can visit one of the artisan shops in the market to browse for unique gifts and souvenirs.
If you're a coffee lover, there are lots of places to grab your caffeine fix in Encinitas! My personal favorite is Better Buzz Coffee, a local shop that has a delicious vanilla latte (with or without milk!) If you're more of a tea drinker, check out Philz or Pannikin.
